The Rule of Odds is quite simple: It says that images can be more visually pleasing when they have an odd number of subjects. The basic idea is that an odd number can help create a more balanced, aesthetically pleasing composition. For example, you might have one center subject framed by two other objects, one on each side. These three objects nicely balance each other, and can help your overall composition.
This week’s challenge is similarly simple: Take a photo with an odd number of objects– 3, 5, 7, 9, etc. (While 1 is also an odd number mathematically-speaking, we’ll want at least 3 items for this week’s challenge.) Aside from that the choice of subject and location is completely up to you. As always, creative or out of the box ideas are welcomed and encouraged 🙂
The Challenge
- Take a photograph with an odd number of items. (3 or more.)
- Post your photo during the week of Sunday, July 28 and Saturday, August 3.
- Please remember to comment on at least FIVE photo submissions this week by answering the question “why?” in your comments. In other words, “why do I like (or not like) this photo?” or “why did this photo catch my eye?” Thank you!
