WEEK 16: Community Spirit & Multi Panel Sequences

This week’s photo challenge theme is community spirit, told through the medium of multi-panel sequences… I.E a comic book strip.

Throughout the pandemic, we have heard of many stories of communities coming together to help one another, good old-fashioned community spirit. From community resilience groups formed to people picking up shopping for neighbours to decorating windows with messages of hope. Community spirit is everywhere right now. What a lot of us could do with is some positivity in our lives. and storytelling through photographs is a brilliant way to do this.

So This week I’d like you to tell a story with your photographs showing community spirit and then display it in the form of multiple panel sequences otherwise known as a comic strip

There are a few ways to do this:

You could keep it really simple and simply take the photographs (3-6 photographs is a good number for a single comic strip simple story)  and then use a collage maker.. such as Incollage for IOS or pic collage for Android to display your story.

OR…

…and this is where it gets really fun. You could turn your photographs into comic-style art using an app such as Comica for android or Clip2Comic for iPhone.

These are very simple to do.

Using Comica for android for an example.

You upload you photo to the app then have choice of styles to convert your photograph into comicbook style artwork. Its one click. Save then your done.

Then use a collage app such as I mentioned above. Incollage to create your sequence /story / comic strip.

This option gives you the best storytelling options as in comica you can add speech bubbles, captions or even onomatopoeia (POW – BANG –  *whisper – etc )

If you are in an area that is still heavily in lockdown, there are still ways for you to take part in this week’s challenge.
You could re-enact something you’ve read or maybe your community is your family now. Food for thought.
The following image here is the story of my elderly neighbour. Who a local farmer gives wood to so he can keep him and his sick wife warm during the cold weather.

The challenge:

  • Take 3-6 photographs that tell a story about community spirit and make a multi panel sequence / comic book strip with them. (Optional turn your photographs into comic art and add text)
  • Post your newly taken photo during the week of Sunday, April 18.
  • Tag your photo #photochallenge #2021photochallenge #tempusaura
  • Please remember to comment on at least FIVE photo submissions this week by answering the question “why?” in your comments. In other words, “why do I like (or not like) this photo?” or “why did this photo catch my eye?”

Thank you!
