This week’s challenge should be fun, creative, and perhaps a bit silly. The goal is to photograph a face (or anything that looks like a face) with only one restriction: You may not have any people in your photo. Anything else is fair game: Animals, stuffed toys, statues, artwork, or even inanimate objects that just happen to look like faces. The goal is to take something non-human, and show off its human-like qualities. For this week, you are encouraged to be silly and have fun– The more unusual or creative your subject the better.
As always, let’s take a look at some examples:
Pets or other animals are a great option for this week’s challenge. I particularly liked this photo, as the dog seems to have a big ol’ smile on her face. Even though the dog isn’t human, her expression seems to have human-like qualities.
Statues or other artwork are another great option for this week. Photograph your favorite statue, painting, or even graffiti– as long as it has a face.
I can’t help but smile when looking at this photo. Even though it’s just a bunch of plants, you can see a very obvious (and amusing) face.
One of my favorite options for this week involves Pareidolia– where we perceive an inanimate object as having a face, when it really doesn’t. Even though the image above is just an ordinary electrical outlet, we very clearly see a human-looking face.
Here’s another, similar example, using a wooden crate:
For this week’s challenge, your goal is to photograph a face– or anything that happens to look like a face– using anything except a human as your subject. As noted above, anything else is fair game, including animals, nature, man-made objects, art, or anything else you find. Ideally, we’re looking to take something non-human and make it appear to have human like features.
Creative, out-of-the-box ideas are always allowed and encouraged. Get your camera, be creative, and have fun!
The friendly community guidelines are pretty simple:
- Post one original photograph to our active community on our Facebook Group, Flickr Group or 500PX group (or all three). Tag the photo: #10thanniversaryphotochallenge #2018photochallenge #photochallenge #tempusaura
- The shot should be a new shot you took this week, for the current weekly theme, not something from your back catalog or someone else’s image.
- Don’t leave home without your camera. Participating in the 2018 Trevor Carpenter Photo Challenge is fun and easy.
