2009 Challenge, Day 314: BACKLIT

Today is Tuesday, November 10th, 2009. Today’s theme for the 2009 Challenge is BACKLIT.

Having the primary light source coming from behind the subject can be a massively difficult task to properly expose. However, when you get it right, it can produce some gorgeous results.

Consider using the sun, or an existing light, and then adding your own off camera light to the front of your subject. Or, you can simply expose the subject correctly, knowing that the edges will be blown out. Whatever balance you achieve, this theme can really open your creativity!

Once you’re ready to submit your work to Flickr, you’ve got to do two important things. First, make sure you tag your photos correctly; “2009challenge″ and “2009challenge314“. Also, if you haven’t already, join the PhotoChallenge group on Flickr. Then, submit each day’s photo to the group’s pool.

About Steve Troletti

I'm a Location Scout, Editorial, Nature, Wildlife and Environmental Photographer based in Malibu, California. I specialize in Nature and Urban Nature photography including Infrared Landscapes. The Bulk of my work takes place in the Los Angeles, California area, Greater Montreal Region, Canada, Switzerland, France and Varese in Northern Italy. Ethical wildlife photography is the main priority and focus of my work. A minimum disturbance of the animals, their habitat and the environment is my top priority. This applies as much to total wilderness areas as it does to urban nature environments. Ongoing education of environmental issues and building awareness for the protection of wildlife and wilderness areas around the world is what drives me to document the beauty that surrounds us.
